Strawberry Hill House Flower Festival

Sarah of Compton Garden Flowers and I were invited to dress a windowsill for the amazing Strawberry Hill House Flower festival this year. Organised by Janne Ford and Leigh Chappell, the festival now in its fourth year this year was in association with Flowers from the Farm. Every Flower stem in the festival was British grown by members of FFTF and all the displays were created using sustainable techniques only.

Strawberry Hill House was created by Horace Walpole in the 18th century, it’s one of the finest examples of British Georgian Gothic revival architecture. The Flower festival allows the house to be transformed into a wonderland of flowers which looked amazing both by day and also lit up at night.

It was such a pleasure to be able to create something without constraint and we named our design ‘A Window into Autumn’. We wanted it to be a real celebration of the autumn bounty in Sarah’s flower field at this time of year. We created the design by first using beautiful autumn foliage including japanese maple, rose hips, oak and lashings of jasmine to create the shape whilst still allowing the light from the window to shine through. We then added delicate autumn flowers in reds and golds, such as marigolds, crab apples, phlox and florists dill and lemonade cosmos to compliment the colours of the room.

It really was such a wonderful experience to be part of and I hope you enjoy looking at these images taken by the wonderful floral photographer and stylist Janne Ford.
