5 Ways to Find Wedding Inspiration.

You’ve just got engaged and are so excited to plan the perfect wedding celebration. But where to start? It can certainly seem overwhelming, planning a wedding can take lots of time and energy, especially when you feel bombarded by inspiration from all angles - not least from Pinterest and Instagram. Here’s some tips to help you step away from the overwhelm and find a wedding style to reflect you both in all of your uniqueness!

  1. Step away from the world of weddings.

It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and ideas from so many different types of wedding that it can be hard not to get swept up in the wedding of someone else’s dreams. Instead step away from the world of weddings and discuss as a couple the things that are important to you. What do you both love? Do you have shared interests? What is unique to you as a couple and your love story? Once you have the answers, think about how you might be able to reflect that across your wedding celebration. This can really help you to find a starting point to shape your wedding design from and act as a prompt to design a truly individual day.

2. Find Inspiration in Nature.

Use nature to inform your wedding plans. Which seasons do you love? Are you waiting in anticipation for the spring flowers to appear each year, are you a hot weather summer lover, or perhaps the crunchy autumn leaves are your favourite. You can use your preference to help decide when to plan your wedding for. Once you know the month or season that you want to get married, you can use this to inform the design of your day. What is the weather likely to be? What flowers and fruits are in season? What are the colours that nature is showing at that time of year?

Are there any natural elements that are significant in your partnership? Perhaps you love hiking in the woods, or spending time in the ocean. Look for inspiration that can be incorporated into your wedding design.

3. Find Inspiration in Travel

Where did you meet? Where do you love to holiday together? Or perhaps you got engaged in a far flung destination. Have a look through your pictures of your time in those places, what is it about them that speak to you? Is it the colours, textures, architecture, food? Elements of these can all be included in your day, whether the catering focuses on a specific cuisine, or you incorporate the colours into your floral palette. Or perhaps you might decide to hold a destination wedding in your favourite location!

4. Focus on what you really love.

What to do if you just can’t resist Pinterest or Instagram? I can’t deny, both of these can be great tools for seeing what the art of possible is for your wedding. Instagram is also a great tool for finding suppliers that you love. My top advice is limit how much time your spend on Pinterest, its often the first things you pin that you love the most, have a look at what connects them and the common threads running through them. Then step away before you become buried in a rabbit hole of indecision.

Similarly, if you find a supplier whose work you love, connect with them for a consultation and discover how they can help you with your vision. Most suppliers will be happy to arrange an informal type conversation so you can get to know each other and decide if you are the right fit. Trust your chosen suppliers to deliver in their area of expertise for your wedding vision.

5. Hire a Wedding Planner or Stylist

If you need some extra help with your wedding, do consider hiring a Planner or Stylist to help you. A Wedding Planner can help you right from the beginning of the process by looking at your budget in a holistic manner and helping you to shape your day by sourcing a team of amazing suppliers. They also normally co-ordinate the actual celebration, leaving you free to enjoy your special day.

A Stylist is normally involved just in the styling elements of your day, some have extensive props that you can choose from, or some help to source pieces that fit your day through other suppliers. Again, they are normally present on your wedding day to set up the styling at the ceremony, reception and other key parts of your day.
